About the Center
The Center for Religion and Philosophy was officially established at the end of 2024 as part of the LMU Faculty for Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Religious Studies. The Center is the operating arm of a Foundation for Religion and Philosophy that was created thanks to a generous donation. The Chair of Religious Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy serves as Director of the Center. As the Foundation was designed to continue its work indefinitely as a Treuhandstiftung under German law, it is hoped that this will support the study of religion within the Faculty of Philosophy well into the future.
The Center’s primary mission is to reflect philosophically and theoretically on religion as a domain of human behavior and experience. A related mission is to facilitate the public understanding of religion, particularly on matters of social importance, by disseminating scholarship to, and engaging in discussion with, non-academic audiences.
